Diary of Mary (part 7)

Today we saw land! It looked really wonderful to see land after not seeing it for more then two months. And it will be wonderful to be able to walk on it too. About 20 men took a small boat of men to go explore the country, I hope they find a nice place to stay, for tis all ready November. My father could not go for you see his is sick.

I am not sure what else I can write about, so I will write later.

Later: The men came back from the expedition and they found some place where we could build a home.

Diary of Mary (part 6)

Diary of Mary (part 6)

Well I have some good news and some bad news, I will tell you the good news first.

Yesterday night, the person in the crows nest spotted land! Thank God! This morning we had a special service, to thank God that we are now near land. I can't wait till i can really see it with mine own two eyes. Right now I am sitting on deck with some of my friends. We are all waiting to see who can spot the land first.

Now for the bad news.

Today my father is so very sick, the Doctor does not think he will live more then a month. And tis already November, so by the end of December or early January he will be dead! I can not think of what it will be like to live with out him.

Diary of Mary (part 5)

I have two exciting things to tell you, but the first one is not as exciting as the second one.

1. Today we saw some drift wood, and sea gulls! that means we are near land!!! oh I can't wait!
2. Me and my friends Susan and Anne made up this game called "see it" it's really fun, here is how you play, you have two or more people, and one person says something like, I see something blue, and the other people have to guess what it is. It is a good way to pass time.

Yesterday all of the women and girls able to help, cleaned all of the pots and pans. And we had to haul all of the water up from the side of the ship! It was hard, but after we were done it was nice to look at.

Diary of Mary (part 3)

Well we have now been on this ship for one month! I do hope we are not on this dreaded ship much longer! The captain says it should not be more then a month, which all of us are very grateful for. Today my friends mother gave birth to a baby boy, they named him Oceanus, they said they named him that because he was born out in the middle of this ocean, quite a beautiful name I think. For the past two weeks I have been so tired because they are so many people sick that we have to take care of all the little children who are sick and not sick! But what else could i do not this ship? We are not allowed to go on deck, for you see the captain says all of us children, big and small are a nuisance. So here I am writing writing on a case of food in these stinky quarters of this small ship. You would think with all of us being sick that the food would stink by now, but it has stayed nice a fresh, which all of us are grateful for. Well we all must go and have a prayer time now.

The Diary of Mary Chilton Part two

Let me tell you a little more about me and my past. I was born in 1607, in England. At the age of one my family and all the other Separatists moved to Lynden Holland because we could not worship the one true God, King James was making all of these rules about the Church and we did not agree with them. We had been in Lynden for 11 years, until we decided that we need a place that we could really call “home”, so we made an agreement with the Virginian Company. When we first started out we had two ships the Speedwell and the Mayflower, but the Speedwell leaked too much and thats why we had to go back to England three time, so now there is only one ship, the Mayflower with a total of 102 people. So here we are all of us Separatists (all of us are not Separatists though).

Well my friends want me to play some games with them now to pass the time!

I’ll write more later.

The Diary of Mary Chilton

This is a Diary of Mary Chilton, she was one of the Pilgrims who were on the mayflower When they went to Virginia in 1620. She did actually live and most of the facts are true. But some of them are not. I will be doing this Diary over a seven week period. I hope you enjoy it :)

Hi my name is Mary Chilton and I and my family is traveling to Virginia on the Mayflower. I am 13 and this is the third time we have left England to go to Virginia. I was given this Diary from my older sister Isabella; she has stayed back in Holland with her Husband Roger and her 2 Children. Only I and my father and mother are going to Virginia, my older sisters stayed back in Holland.

Well I must go tend to my father, he has become very sick and tired, for you see he was hit in the head with some stones just before we left.

Must go, write later.

Mary

Come back later for more :)
