Queen Elizabeth I (part 2)

Hey here is my Queen Elizabeth part 2 tell me how you like both parts...and if you have not read part 1 go below this post and read it first.

Edward and Elizabeth spent much time together. Both received a very impressive education, they were taught Latin, Greek, Spanish, French, History, Philosophy and Mathematics. As much as they enjoyed their childhood it was also filled with tragedy. Henry married Anne of Cleves. He divorced her soon after they were married. Henry’s fifth wife was Katherine Howard. They were married for a couple of years; before he beheaded her for no apparent reason. Henry’s sixth and final wife was Catherine Parr and she remained with him till the end of his death.

At the age of thirteen, Elizabeth’s father died on January 28, 1547. Henry’s death was kept a secret for three days. At the time of Henry’s death, Elizabeth and Edward were at the Palace Royal of Enfiled in Londen continuing their education when they were told of their father’s death. They both cried and held on to each other, not knowing what the future would hold. Edward became the King of England at the age of nine.

For most of Edward reign, Elizabeth had a quiet and peaceful life. She continued with her studies and spent a great deal of time visiting with her step-mother Catherine Parr. While spending time with her mother, Catherine became pregnant and had a daughter that she named Mary. Much to Elizabeth’s sorrow, Catherine died on September 1548 a few days after Mary was born.

Mary became queen on July 19 1553. When Mary became Queen she said that she was going to change England’s religion back to the Roman Catholic Faith, instead of it being Protestant like it was when she was growing up. Mary later became later know as “Bloody Mary” for her persecution to the Protestants. When Mary married Prince Phillip of Spain it made her even more up popular.

During Mary’s reign, there was a plot that formed to kill Mary, but it was discovered before the plan was carried out. Mary, because she disliked her sister, claimed that Elizabeth had done it, even when Elizabeth said she did not. Elizabeth was then sent to the tower where her mother was held, and beheaded.

For the next year or so Elizabeth was kept in constant terror of being sentenced to death or beheaded. In the last year of Mary’s reign, Mary became pregnant (she never ended up having the child), took Elizabeth out of the tower and sentenced her to in-house arrest, at Hatfield until her death.

Mary died on November 17, 1558, it was said that Elizabeth sitting under an oak tree, and upon hearing that she was Queen of England said “A Dominum factum est illud, et est mirabile in oculis notris”—“It is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes”

On January 15, 1559, Elizabeth I was crowned Queen of England, they say that the total cost of her celebrations, not counting the coronation banquet was 16’741 back then, about 3.4 million today! Elizabeth had a very successful reign, and it is still referred to today as the Golden Age. Elizabeth died on March 24, 1603, and was succeed by James I.

If it were me, I would not want to be a princess in the sixteenth century! I would much rather be in the time period God put me in.

Queen Elizabeth I (part 1)

Have you ever fantasized about what it was like to be a princess in the sixteenth century? Well you might want to re-take back that thought. It was not a glamorous as you might think. Let’s consider the life of Queen Elizabeth I. Elizabeth I, is the only surviving child of King Henry VIII by his second wife, Anne Boleyn.

King Henry VIII had been married to Catherine or Aragon for 17 years, she had had six children, but only one survived, Mary the oldest out of the six children. After Catherine had the sixth child, it was obvious to Henry that she would not bear a male son. Henry had asked permission from the pope to divorce Catherine, but the permission was declined. The Pope had said that Henry and Catherine had been married too long. Henry then decided to over throw the Catholic Church and make his own Church of England, after he had done all of that he himself granted himself permission to divorce Catherine.

He then married Anne Boleyn who was already pregnant, hoping that she would bear him a male son. That was not to happen. On September 7, 1533 at Greenwich Palace, Anne gave birth to their daughter, Elizabeth.

From the moment Anne bore Elizabeth, Henry was very displeased, and did not even go to her christening. Anne’s marriage to Henry was short. Henry claimed that Anne was a witch and beheaded her on the Tower Green on May 19, 1536 Elizabeth was not even three years old. After Anne was beheaded Elizabeth was sent away from her father, for she was a reminder to Henry of Anne.

While all of this was happening to Elizabeth, Henry decided to marry Jane Seymore hoping the child she was caring would be a son. To Henry’s delight, his son Edward was born, but also to his sorrow Jane died a few day’s later.

There will be a part 2 to this essay!

King Henry II

Here is a little bit about King Henry II.

enjoy!

Henry II inherited a vast domain in France and had a hard time keeping up with it. One of King Henry's close friends said "He never sits down; he is on his feet morning till night." Henry was born on March 5 1133 in Tours, France.Henry's family was most of the time very rich. Henry was the son of Geoffrey Plantagenet (Plan-tag-e-net), Count of Anjou in France, and Maltilda. daughter of King Henry I and granddaughter of William the Conqueror. Thoma Becket was Henry's Chief management of public affairs. After a quarrel between Thomas and King Henry, Henry invited Thomas to come along on a trip to England but in his anger he said no and fled to France and remained there for six years. King Henry said near the end of his time in England while speaking to a group of Knights "There is no one who will rid me of this turbulent priest?" meaning Thomas. Four nights having her him in his anger said "They must mean Thomas" and went to murder Thomas in England. When they entered the Canterbury Cathedral again seeking for him. "Where is the traitor Thomas Becket?" Thomas answered boldly "no traitor but a priest of God." During that time Henry was in Normandy and said he nothing to do with it a killed the murderers. In the last year of Henry's life there was trouble again the King of France an Henry's son Richard took up arms against him. Henry was defeated and was forced to grant what they wished. When he saw a list of the barons who had joined the French king, he found among them the name of his favorite son John, and his heart was broken. He died a few days later. Henry's eldest surviving son, Richard, was crowned at Westminster Abbey in 1190. He took the title of Richard I, but is better know as "The lion hearted", a name that was given to him on account of his bravery. He had wonderful strength, and his brave deeds were talked about all over the land.

Cell phones..

Here is one of my speeches for Speech and Debate,

enjoy!

Cell phones have become a nuisance in schools. Between text messaging, drug dealing, and cheating during class, many state governments have thought about a complete ban on cell phone use in school buildings. Currently leave such decisions up to administrators to decide if cell phones will be allowed in school. However, it is not just up to administrators, parents and students have a responsibility to use their cell phones wisely.

The Administrators and teachers have done what they can for the kids who don't use discretion, here are some examples Quote from CBS "Elizabeth Casanola carries her cell phone everywhere-even through the metal detectors at her school" Using metal detectors on one of the ways the administrators have tried to fix the problem and here is another option teacher have used Quote from Teaching Today "Have students label their cell phones and place them in a basket at the beginning of class and return them to students at the end of class." B. Parents want their children to have cell phones at school for safety reasons. However, parents must take responsibility to train their children in proper cell phone use. (How?) After being alive for more then 13 years I have noticed one of the thing most parents worry about is training there children right. While reading some of theses articles I have noticed that even they want there kids to use discretion when using there cell phones in public place and even school, it seems to me that even the kids want other students to use discretion because they do not want to lose there privileges with there cell phones in the schools.

Students need to exercise self control and obey the school rules. All schools have cell phone rules and if you do not abide by the rules the you will get a ban but on your school and if you do not abide by the ban rules then you will have the Government coming in and putting laws so that you will not be even allowed to bring in Cell phones. (possible quote) One of the ways you can help not put a ban on your school is if you yourself abide by the rules and and also encourage other students by them use there cell phones with discretion. Students are getting around the rules in some schools where there is a ban, here are some examples they will wrap their cell phone in a sandwich wraps or will pay a small fee to have someone hold them during classes and then go get them after classes.

The dilemma in public places is that most people are not considerate of other people around them while they are using their cell phones. Often creating uncomfortable and distracting situations. One frustrated person wrote in The Wittenberg Torch "Every single one of the six people walking in front of me and behind me was chatting on their cell phones. The phones came in all shape, sizes, and colors, just a unique as their users, who did not seem to care that other people might be listening to their conversations"

Recently I walked into my local Library and saw a sign that said "Please do not use cell phones in the Library." Was the request taken seriously? No. I saw people talking on their cell phones and heard them ringing constantly. A few days later my sister went to the library hoping for a quiet place to study for an exam. The silence was broken by a woman whose cell phone rang while she was attempting to check out books. She started talking quite loudly and the lady that was checking her out did not do any thing to keep her quite or to even tell her that you are not allowed to use cell phones in the Library! Did the library employees do any thing to enforce the rules? No. They just let them do it.

Restaurants are another place where cell phones have become a nuisance. " Danny Meyer, owner of ten successful New York City restaurants, put the kibosh on cell phone use in his dining rooms six years ago. Every time the phone rings, it's not only an interruption on their time, it's an interruption on everyone else who's trying to enjoy the restaurant"

While reading these articles for this speech every single article said I wish more people would use the Blue Tooth, which is a new technology system that is making it a lot easier for people to drive, which brings me to my final point about Driving.

Thirteen states have a ban on teens using cell phones. Most recently in the state of California there has been a Government law passed that Kids under the age of 18 are not allowed to use cell phones in cars. This is one of the way the Government will intervene if we do not abide by the small and simple rules. Now do you really want the Government coming in and making a bunch of laws that were rules but now have to be law because there were people who did not abide by the rules?

Lot's of people say but what if there is an emergency? If it is an true emergency the most likely you will be all ready stopped of pulled over. But the problem is what do people consider and emergency? if you forgot your lunch, of some school book? You could either pull over or maybe wait till you get to school.

If we do not obey small laws and neglect our cell phones eticate, then the government will step in with laws. Do you want the Government laminating your freedom? Then limit yourselves.G.K. Cherston said"When you break the big laws, you do not get freedom; you do not even get anarchy. You get the small laws."
